The racecourse owner the Melbourne Racing Club sought to develop one of the first multi-level grandstands to provide exceptional comfort on race days as well as functions and event capacity at other times.

Structural systems and services were developed to allow the textile fabric roof, multi-level building with an enclosing glass wall facade to be constructed.

Sandown Racecourse

This project emerged from the integrated business development plan for both the Caulfield and Sandown Racecourses owned by the Melbourne Racing Club.

It envisaged the capacity to cater for a circa Melbourne Cup day crowd of 100,000 people, so the Sandown Grandstand as built is one of the largest in Australia.
